FedEx Income Statement Analysis Sample
In this section of the financial report, I walk you through a broad definition of what an income statement is and why it is essential. From this, I then discuss and define important income statement line items, such as revenues, gross profits, etc., in detail. Finally, I offer a summary analysis of the company's important income statement line item trends. For example,...
FedEx Cost of Goods Sold.
FedEx’s cost of goods sold (COGS) was $22 billion or 33.6% as compared to revenues in 2018. In 2022, the organization’s cost of goods sold increased to $37.3 billion or 39.9% as compared to revenues. On average, the firm’s cost of goods growth annually was about 14.4%. This trend indicates the organization’s cost of goods sold growth rate is exceeding the revenue growth rate. When this happens, inevitably, the company will have to either increase prices or take steps to reduce their cost of goods. From an investor’s perspective, this is a below-average trend.

FedEx Property, Plant, and Equipment
FedEx’s property, plant, and equipment (PP&E) were $28.1 billion, or 46% of sales in 2018. As of 2022, the organization’s property, plant, and equipment increased to $38 billion, or 43.6% of sales. The sustained growth in property, plant and equipment shows that the firm believes that its revenues will continue to grow for the foreseeable future. Also, the reduction in property, plant, and equipment as compared to sales should tell investors that the firm continually utilized fixed assets in an optimal manner. From an investor’s perspective, this is a good trend.

FedEx Financial Ratios Sample
In this section of the financial report, I walk you through definitions of various popular financial ratios, how to calculate the ratios, formulas used, etc. Also, for some popular financial ratios, I provide brief explanations of what the ratios mean as it is related to the company.
FedEx Fixed Asset Turnover Ratio
FedEx’s fixed asset turnover was 2.3 in 2018. In 2022, the organization’s fixed asset turnover would increase to 2.45. This trend indicates that the company is better utilizing its fixed assets year-over-year to generate revenues. This is an excellent trend from an investor’s perspective.
Analyst Grade: A
FedEx Return on Equity
FedEx’s return on equity (ROE) was 23.5% in 2018. In 2022, the organization’s return on equity was 15.3%. The reduction in return on equity sometimes means that the company is utilizing more equity to support operations and expansion instead of taking on additional debt. However, a reduction in ROE also means the company is not generating increased revenues using equity, which is a not-so-good trend.
