Starbucks’ cost of goods sold, as compared to revenues, in 2017 was 40.4%.  In the next four years, the organization’s cost of goods sold as compared to revenues would continually fall, ending 2021, to 30.1%.  This indicates that the organization is doing an excellent job of negotiating raw material costs—an excellent trend.

Starbucks Property, Plant, and Equipment

Starbucks property, plant, and equipment ended 2017 at $4.9 billion.  In the next four years, the organization would continually increase its property, plant, and equipment ending in 2021 at $6.3 billion.  As compared to the sales in 2017, their property, plant, and equipment were 26.4%.  As of 2021, their property, plant, and equipment, as compared to sales, would fall slightly to 25.9%.  This indicates that the firm is better at utilizing its property, plant, and equipment over the long term.  This is definitely a good trend.

In this section of the financial report, I walk you through definitions of various popular financial ratios, how to calculate the ratios, formulas used, etc. Also, for some popular financial ratios, I provide brief explanations of what the ratios mean as it is related to the company.

Starbucks Quick Ratio

Starbucks' quick ratio ended 2017 at .93.  In the next four years, the organization’s quick ratio would fluctuate between .67 in 2019 and 1.95 in 2018.  Ending 2021, the organization’s quick ratio was 1.0.  From my experience, this quick ratio may be a little excessive, but it’s not too outside of other similar organizations based on my experience.

Starbucks Fixed Asset Turnover Ratio

Starbucks fixed asset turnover ended 2017 at 4.55.  In the next three years, the organization’s fixed asset turnover would continually fall, ending 2020 at 3.77.  Fortunately, the firm would bounce back in 2021 with a fixed asset turnover of 4.56.  This shows that the firm was able to better utilize its fixed assets in 2021 as compared to the rest of the years.
